Historical Perspectives of EMIS in India

The evolution of EMIS in India, pioneered by Prof. Arun C. Mehta, has transformed educational planning. From its inception as DISE in the 1990s to its elevation as UDISE+ under official statistics, this system has become a cornerstone for data-driven decision-making. Our historical analyses trace its development, showcasing how UDISE+ strengthens India’s ability to monitor and enhance school education.

UDISE and UDISE+ Data Analysis Over Time

Our platform provides longitudinal analyses of UDISE and UDISE+ data, covering key indicators like GER trends, school numbers, and dropout rates over a decade. These insights, grounded in rigorous methodology, highlight successes – such as increased enrolment—and persistent gaps, as outlined in NEP 2020’s 2030 goals. Explore our reports to understand India’s educational trajectory and inform policy interventions.

UDISEPlus 2021-22 Data Analysis: Implications for Universal School Education in India

Prof. Arun C Mehta, Former Professor & Head of the EMIS Department at NIEPA, New Delhi, has been writing on different aspects of education planning in general and data analysis and use of indicators and its implications for the universal school education in India.

This section presents his exclusive writing on UDISEPlus data in general and 2021-22 data in particular. This webpage is entirely focused on school education which has widespread implications for India’s efforts toward universal enrolment in 2030 envisaged in NEP 2030. In particular, he has almost analysed the entire UDISEPlus 2021-22 data with regard to different components of universalization, such as universal access, participation, retention, and education quality.

Prof. Mehta’s analysis is based on both the all-India and state-specific data. However, none of his writings are based on district-specific data. Scholars, students of educational planning, and others who have an interest in indicators and data analysis and are willing to undertake studies based on UDISEPlus district-specific data may contact him for guidance. He can be reached at acmehta100[at]gmail[dot]com.
