The Educational Implications of India’s Delayed Census: A Critical Analysis on School Education Planning and Resource Allocation (2024)

Introduction

In this section population generated through the Census of India 2001 and 2011 commissioned by the Office of the Registrar General of India (RGI) with focus on child age-specific population is presented. With an aim to provide readymade projections of child population (6 to 11, 11 to 13 and 6 to 14 years). An attempt has also been made based on the Census 2011 population to project age-specific population to facilitate education officers, especially at the block and district levels to compute enrolment based indicators, such as Gross and Net enrolment ratio and other enrolment based indicators being used in the district plan formulation.
