Census of India 2011: Population, Literacy, Density, Sex Ratio and other information

This section of EFA in India presents Census 2011 data both at the district and state level. However the emphasis is on single-age child population. Based on the single-age child population, age-specific 6 to 11, 11 to 14 and 6 to 14 years child population based on the actual 2011 Census has been estimated to facilitate district level officers engaged in formulation of annual work and budget plans under Samagra Shiksha/Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan programme.

While using estimated 2011 child population in computing enrolment indicators, such as Gross and Net Enrolment Ratio, it was observed a wide gap between the projected and actual 2011 Census population which was mainly because of the fact that district-level officers were never provided projected child population in the absence of which they made projections at their own  which were wide off the mark. In view of this, an attempt was made by Prof. Arun C Mehta formally with NIEPA, New Delhi  by suing single-age 2011 Census population in projecting 6-11, 11-14 and 6 to 14 years population both state and district -wise over a period of time. An ECEL Template was also made available to project child population at the block level.

Good to see that the projected child population made available by Education for All in India has been used by the district and block officers engaged in formulation of Annual Work and Budget Plans from across the country. Similar attempt will be made when Census 2021 actual single-age population is available preparation of which is going in full swing by the Registrar General of India i.e. Census of India.
