Guidelines for Requesting a 11-Digit UDISEPLUS School Code (2025)
The Importance of the 11-Digit UDISE+ Code for All Schools
The 11-digit UDISE+ code, a unique identifier under the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+), is a cornerstone of India’s school education data ecosystem, ensuring that every school – recognized or unrecognized, from pre-primary to secondary – is integrated into the national database. Covering all schools under UDISE+ is critical for comprehensive educational planning, resource allocation, and monitoring under schemes like Samagra Shiksha. Without universal coverage, gaps in data lead to inaccurate planning, misallocated resources, and exclusion of marginalized students, undermining the goal of equitable education.
The UDISE+ code enables precise tracking of school infrastructure, enrollment, teacher data, and learning outcomes, forming the backbone of evidence-based policymaking. If unrecognized or pre-primary schools remain uncovered, it distorts the educational landscape, affecting fund disbursement, infrastructure development, and targeted interventions under Samagra Shiksha. For instance, incomplete data can result in underfunded schools, unaddressed teacher shortages, or overlooked dropout rates, particularly in underserved areas.
Educational functionaries must advocate for universal UDISE+ coverage by engaging headmasters (HMs) of uncovered schools through workshops, awareness campaigns, and direct outreach. They should emphasize the benefits: access to government grants, improved infrastructure, and inclusion in national education initiatives. To convince HMs, functionaries can use success stories of schools that benefited from UDISE+ inclusion, such as enhanced facilities or teacher training. Leveraging multiple channels – local meetings, social media, SMS campaigns, community radio, and collaboration with gram panchayats or NGOs – ensures maximum reach to unrecognized and remote schools. By fostering awareness and simplifying the registration process, functionaries can ensure every school is part of UDISE+, strengthening India’s education system for inclusive growth. The education authorities must prepare a comprehensive School Directory of school engaged in education from pre-primary to secondary and higher secondary levels of education, which in turn must be used to find out uncovered schools in the official data collection system i.e. UDISEPlus.
